The Epic World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan Part 2

The World Nomad Games is one of the most picturesque and fun things that I have ever been to. I went to the first one in 2014 and the 2016 games.

They are held in Kyrgyzstan, a very friendly country in Central Asia.

Some of the games were held next to a shimmering blue lake while others were at a nomadic yurt camp set up in a valley in the mountains.

If you like cultural events this could be one of the best things you go to.

It was not just the games that were great but also the people dressed traditionally and who are so welcoming.

Archery and eagle/hawk hunting are a big thing at the games in the nomad camp at Kyrchyn, as well as dog hunting. Some of the most legendary archers come from this region.

Mas wrestling is an entertaining nomadic sport where they wrestle over a stick.

One of the most beautiful things about the nomad games are the traditionally dressed people and their hospitality.

  1. Hi Jonny,
    Impressive pictures! Thanks for sharing!
I must admit, I had never heard of those games (I do not know Central Asia so far, unfortunately).
How long do those games last?
    Cheers, Gilles

  3. Incredible pictures!

I love the one of the mounted archer. The concentration in his face and skill involved is awesome.

    Beautiful traditional costumes too.

    Thank you for sharing

  4. Excellent presentation of the Games ! I’m planning my trip now and the timing of this means it will be at the end of my 3-4 week trip (I’m planning to return to Shanghai around 10th-12th September).

I’m working on the route now (hiking and photography the main reasons for the trip). Planning to fly Bishkek to Osh on arrival and work my way up to the Games so maybe I’ll see you there !

I’m off to read your other posts now – cheers ! Kevin
