Deosai National Park is without a doubt one of the best national parks in Pakistan you can visit. It’s the 2nd highest plateau in the world, after the Tibetan Plateau, and is a stunning mix of rolling green hills with distant snow-peaked mountain views and a river runs through it.

Getting To Deosai National Park
If you don’t have your own transport then the best way to visit the national park is on an organized tour.
You can organize a tour from any guesthouse or travel agent in Skardu. Most go for a long day trip, but I highly recommend you camp for a night up there, like we did.,
If you are doing a tour from Skardu then for a place to stay in Skardu, I recommend the Sehrish Guest House.
What To See In Deosai National Park
Deosai National Park is known for its natural beauty and that’s pretty much what you will see there. Just drive along the main road and stop where you want and get out for a walk.
Having said that there are particular areas of interest, such as Sheosar Lake, which is popular for taking photos at.
If there at the end of summer you may be lucky to spot a brown bear (see advice on that further down the article.
Keep an eye out for the cute marmots that roam around.
In the summer many wildflowers come into bloom bringing color to the landscape.
One of the most peaceful things to do in Deosai National Park is to leave your transport behind and go for a walk in nature.
Wildlife In Deosai National Park
The main draw for wildlife in Deosai National Park is the brown bears that are protected there.
However, there are not that many bears, and the main area where they can be found is on a side dirt road away from the main road, and you need to get a special permit in Skardu to go up it.
Especially during the summer months, you will see a few different types of birds and the most common one we saw was a small yellow-colored one. If anyone knows the name of it mention it in the comments at the end of the article.
With a river running through it there is also wild trout to be found but you will need a fishing permit from Skardu and your own fishing gear if you want to try fishing there.
Visit Deosai National Park
Deosai National Park is one of the most beautiful nature areas in Pakistan that you can visit and is easily accessible from Skardu. I recommend going there if you can, it’s one of our favourite places for nature in Pakistan.
