These are some of the best blogs about Japan to read to get a good up-to-date insight into Japanese life and culture that also give lots of advice for travelling in the country.
Blogs About Japan
I have spent several months travelling to many different parts of Japan and I can easily say it’s my favourite country in the world. Most of my most popular blog posts are about Japan (more on those at the end of this article).
There is so much to write about Japan that I could not possibly cover it all myself, and indeed, there are many more people out there who have more in-depth knowledge about certain parts of Japan and Japanese life.
As such, I have no problem recommending other blogs about Japan to others to get more advice from. The blogs mentioned here are some of my favourites that I regularly read myself.
Some are personal blogs while others are the blog sections of some online newspapers and small businesses in the country that are related to travelling there.
GaijinPot
GaijinPot covers a variety of topics related to living and working in Japan, including travel guides, cultural insights, language tips, and expat experiences.
If you are thinking about working in Japan then this is the best website for information on doing that.

A related article that an American friend of mine wrote for me where she explains what it was like living in Japan for 3 years.

Although Jrailpass is a website for booking the Japan Rail Pass, it also has an excellent blog section on Japan that is regularly updated.
Side note: If you want to get a rail pass for your visit to Japan, or want to learn more about it and the options it gives, you can check here for Japan Rail Pass information at Jrailpass.

Sakuraco is an online business from Japan that sells seasonal boxes of Japanese sweets and exports them worldwide to customers. However, they also have excellent articles about Japanese culture and life in Japan.
I only stumbled upon their website recently when they got in touch with me about reviewing one of their products, which I didn’t do, but I did check out their blog page and loved it.

One extra…
The Mainichi
The Mainichi is a prominent Japanese newspaper that has been in circulation for over 140 years, although it is not a blog which is why I added it as an “extra.” It is one of the largest and oldest newspapers in Japan, with a long history of providing news coverage on various topics including politics, economics, society, culture, and international affairs.
It publishes articles in Japanese and offers an English-language version of its website, providing news and analysis for an international audience.
This is the online news site that I follow for the latest news about Japan.
