That’s what everything was and is all about. The search for fun, adrenaline, and never-ending new travel experiences.

When I started Backpackingman back in 2013 the aim was simply to document my travels and give a bit of advice on areas I was  knowledgable on.

The beginning of the blog started in high adventure as I travelled from Ethiopia overland to South Africa by local buses and hitch-hiking. One of the best trips I have done.

That journey got me a bunch of readers following for adventure.

However the next phase after that saw me going to Japan where things mellowed out a lot on the adventure side of things. I love Japan, it’s one of my favourite countries, but it’s definitely less adventurous than the first few months of blogging I had done.

It was around this time that I started getting more readers interested in Japan (one of my most popular posts is about how Japan is cheaper to travel than many think), but I also lost others initially interested in the adventure aspect to the travels.

Backpackingman is first and foremost about adventure.

Between more chilled out destinations there have been plenty of other wild adventures, including hiking in the remote jungles with tribes in the heart of Borneo and heading into the mountains of Afghanistan. But there have been a lot of more relaxed articles in-between all of this.

Naturally I can’t be on a continuous non-stop adventure (well I could but I would be totally fucking knackered). Chilling has to be done sometimes.

Don’t get me wrong – partying my ass off in Kiev for a few months made me an expert on the bar and club scene there, of which I wrote a detailed post on the best places to go in the city. It was a lot of fun. It became a very popular post as well!

But I want Backpackingman to be about adventure and offbeat journeys.

It’s the heart of what it’s all about.

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the direction of this blogging journey and have some changes planned for the future.

It’s time for mostly pure adventure and offbeat travel.

No planned posts about the best coffeehouses in Dubai… (I love coffee mind you).

Or about the best markets to see somewhere bla bla…

No generalised all over the place travel stuff anymore.

If I’m not out on an adventure I will write advice and stories about other adventures.

I have many friends who are out travelling somewhere, from visiting offbeat places to heading on some extreme adventure. I have a few guest posts lined up telling there stories and some giving advice on how to do what they do.

I want you, my readers, to get the best adventurous stuff I can show. I have no problem directing you to other awesome blogging friends (and non-blogging) to keep the adventure inspiration flowing.

So Backpackingman will not be just a personal blog from me anymore but your go-to source for adventure from many resources.

Back to the original roots of what this blog and life is all about – the search for adventure.

There will still be loads of posts from me though – I have some great offbeat adventures coming up. I’m also planning a lot of video, something new for me to get into. I love streaming through Youtube videos of others adventures.

I am also thinking about running some adventure tours into remote areas that I am knowledgeable about that many are nervous to visit by themselves. I could provide this for around 1/3rd of the price of what tour agencies are charging. People are paying to much for what they offer and I don’t like that. Adventure should be accessible and affordable for anyone.

So lets journey into the future together. Whether it’s from micro weekend adventures to somewhere near you, or a planned escape for months.

Backpackingman has got your back through it all.

As I always say –

Adventure forever!
